How do I know if my baby needs a physical therapy evaluation?
One of my most common inquiries is whether or not a baby needs physical therapy. As a caregiver, it is helpful to know when a baby needs to be evaluated by a PT so you can start services ASAP. When PT is initiated earlier, babies need less of it! A baby should be evaluated by a pediatric PT in any of the following circumstances:
asymmetrical development (eg. preference to look to one side)
head flattening
not meeting gross motor milestones on time (eg. not sitting by 7 months, not pulling to stand by 10 months)
walking with an atypical pattern (eg. toe walking)
Recovering from an injury
Needing to wear any kind of bracing or splinting (eg. bracing for hip dysplasia)
you have any concerns about his/her gross motor development or mobility
If you think your child might benefit from a PT evaluation, feel free to reach out. Unsure? Feel free to reach out anyways. I would love to help. You can book a free discovery call with me! If I’m not the right fit, I’m more than happy to help you find the right provider!
